Fleeting Life
All fabricated things are like a dream,
A phantom, a bubble, and a shadow,
Like a dewdrop or a lightning flash.
This is how they should be perceived.
A phantom, a bubble, and a shadow,
Like a dewdrop or a lightning flash.
This is how they should be perceived.
Diamond Sutra
The shadow itself has no intrinsic nature, but is a function of light and shape. The vague, blurred outline of the human shape is from a reflection on the ground, just like a memory from a dream. The shadows appear to be present and yet cannot be defined, and their transient appearance can vanish at any moment by virtue of a movement or a shift of light.
As in the "Impermanence" and "Urban Mirrors" series, this work questions whether the "self" and world we perceive are merely an illusion of light and shadow. Is everything that we see, touch, and think as ephemeral and illusory as a bubble? If we can let go of our grip on these illusions, it is the path to inner peace and freedom.
